Whit Merrifield, second baseman for the Kansas City Royals, got his black eye in a very unusual way – by being hit by a pitch while he was on deck! The bizarre incident occurred during a game against the Minnesota Twins on August 4, 2019. Merrifield was on deck when Twins pitcher Trevor May threw a wild pitch that struck him in the face.

He immediately fell to the ground and had to be helped off the field by trainers. X-rays taken at the stadium showed that he had suffered a fracture of his orbital bone. It’s been quite a season for Whit Merrifield, who has been one of the best players in baseball.

He leads all of Major League Baseball in hits and is batting over .300. But this is certainly not how he wanted to end his season! We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field soon.

Conclusion

Whit Merrifield was playing with his son in the backyard when he got a black eye. His wife was not happy about it and wanted to know how it happened. Whit explained that he was trying to catch his son when he fell and hit his head on a rock.

She was not happy about this either, but at least she knew how he got his black eye.
